Edison Cricket Club (ECC) was established, at the turn of the millennium (year 2000), as a club for individuals that identified with the sport. We are a registered non-profit organization in New Jersey.
Our primary motivation was to provide a friendly, stress free environment for everyone to come and enjoy a competitive sport. A chance to get away from the routine, get some healthy exercise, get some adrenaline pumping through the veins and forget about the mundane is what we seek to offer all involved with this extended family. This culture is apparent in the closeness of the members and the respect everyone shows to each other, regardless of the age. Added to this is the fact that most of the original players continue to be active in the club.
Although most members have been involved in community service projects, we continue to push for more effort on this front. We believe ECC to be not just a sports oriented organization, but a social one as well. Taking part in fund raising drives and charitable events, under the ECC banner, should further highlight this purpose.
Promotion of the sport and encouragement to newer players is another objective of ECC. To this end we will be mobilizing print and broadcast media to focus on the sport a bit more. Education and exposure to the sport is the only sure way of bringing the game to the masses. Hence, year 2004 saw us joining the Cricket League of New Jersey (CLNJ). Having joined the league ECC only managed to win two games in the entire season.
But under the strong leadership of Captain Divyesh Patel, the Club has won more than 60% of the played games in 2006. From 2007 Sriram Srinivasan the current captain took over the resigns of Captaincy as Edison Cricket club went strength to strength and now has moved up into the prestigious conference A in the CLNJ league.CLNJ is one of the premier leagues in the Atlantic division, as established by the United States Cricket Association (USACA). It sports a healthy membership of 46 clubs within its fold.
In 2009 the club took another leap as its members grew as ECC added in a new team in the Millennium Cricket League which has 28 Team and organizes games every Saturday. In the later part of the year ECC also took part in the T-20 tournament organized by New Jersey State of Cricket Umpire and Association (NJSCUA).
Edison Cricket Club has its home ground in Thomas Jefferson Middle School ground in South Edison where we were the first to organize a Community Cricket T-20 game in the summer of 2008. This game was an exhibition game played along with community leaders and Edison Cricket Club. In 2009 we were first club to join hands with school board and organize a 14 week summer camp for kids under 19 and under 15.
Edison Cricket Club also present Annual Awards not only to their members but also members of cricket leagues in which they participated in a grand annual evening which has become a must attend event in the social calender of all cricketing communities in New Jersey.
We are always looking for, and welcome, people interested in the sport and are encouraged by your passion for the sport. So, come on down to the field and join us. We appreciate your support and participation.
