President - Asian Indian Chamber of Commerce And Founder of Asian Women's Safety Net

Seema M. Singh, Esq. is the President of the Asian Indian Chamber of Commerce (AICC), a non-profit organization committed to providing a forum for the Asian Indian Business Community in the tri-state area. Under her leadership the organization has grown to its current strength of over550 members. The AICC now hosts Networking Nites every month; honors members of the Indian business community for their accomplishments each year at its Annual Dinner Gala; provides a platform for the Asian Indian business community to showcase its products and services by hosting an Annual Business Exposition each year and Promotes trade between New Jersey and India by organizing an Annual Trade Mission.

In addition, Ms. Singh is the founder of the Asian Women's Safety Net (AWSN) a non-profit project under the Coalition for Battered Women. The AWSN was created in collaboration with diverse Asian organizations to assist, counsel and support Asian Women victims of domestic violence. The AWSN was launched in May 2002 by a candlelight vigil and currently has 80 volunteers who are undergoing DVRT training.

Ms. Singh is currently a Director at the Singh Law Firm located in Princeton, New Jersey and is a practicing attorney licensed in New York and New Jersey. For more information log on to www.ssinghlaw.com.

In 2007, Ms. Singh was endorsed by the Mercer and Middlesex Democratic party as its nominee for candidate for the New Jersey State Senate seat in the 14th District in New Jersey.

Ms. Singh also served as the former Ratepayer Advocate/Public Advocate Designate under three New Jersey Governors. She represented and advocated for the state's consumers in all utility matters involving the electric, natural gas, telecommunications, cable television and water industries, and insurance matters at both the state and federal level. As Ratepayer Advocate Ms. Singh also participated on behalf of consumers when long-range energy, water and telecommunications policies are decided.

Ms. Singh has been at the forefront of consumer education and community outreach, hosting informative presentations for adults and children throughout the state focusing on the importance of energy and water conservation.

Ms. Singh serves on the New Jersey Governor's Advisory Council on Volunteerism and Community Service. In addition, she served on the State of New Jersey's Renewable Energy Task Force and the New Jersey Clean Energy Council. She also served on the New Jersey International Education Task Force; the Executive Commission on Ethical Standards for the State of New Jersey and chaired the New Jersey Governor's Asian Studies Commission to prepare recommendations to the Governor for an Asian Studies Curriculum for the State of New Jersey.

Ms. Singh is currently on the Board Member of the American Conference on Diversity (ACD). She has been appointed to the Board of Visitors of New Jersey Institute of Technology ("NJIT") and is a Visiting Associate at the Eagleton Institute of Politics.

Ms. Singh also serves as a board member at the Cathedral Healthcare System - an affiliate of Catholic Health and Human Services Corporation. She also is a Board Member of the New Jersey Women's Political Caucus and she chaired the first ever campaign training for Asian women called the "Rising Stars" in collaboration with the Center for American Women in Politics.

She was also one of the founders and past President of the Rotary International Club of Plainsboro and received the "Paul Harris Fellow" in recognition of her contributions to the Rotary Club. Ms.Singh also founded the Hindu International Council against Defamation and she also participated in the Mercer County Inns of Court.

Ms. Singh served as co-host to a show "Asian Indians in America," a special prime-time programming event and pledge drive to raise awareness on the Asian Indian community and garner support for New Jersey Network. The program, televised live on March 9, 2005, highlighted Asian Indians and their achievements for the New Jersey audience. The program was a ratings success and brought in 120 new members to the NJN community.

Prior to serving as the Ratepayer Advocate/Public Advocate Designate, Ms. Singh worked in the Litigation/International Law Department of the Princeton, N.J. law firm of Pepper Hamilton. She practiced in the areas of international and domestic litigation, mediation and arbitration, including commercial contracts, employment, construction, municipal liens, and zoning. She also practiced in the area of international law with a focus on the Indian and Asian communities.

Ms. Singh previously was an associate with the law firms of Reed Smith, LLP and Fox, Rothschild, O'Brien & Frankel, LLP. She clerked for the Hon. Patrick J. McGann, Presiding Judge, Chancery Division, Monmouth County Superior Court, and served an internship with the Hon. Dickinson R.Debevoise, Senior Judge of the U.S. District Court in Newark.

Ms. Singh is a graduate of Seton Hall School of Law (J.D.,'95), Rutgers University with highest honors (B.S. '88) and Calcutta University in India (B.S. in Zoology, '83).
